Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support the mining design team to ensure designs meet client standards and legislation.
• Review and assist with mine design to maintain quality and accuracy.
• Provide mining input for feasibility studies and techno-economic evaluations.
• Participate in mine design and planning, including pit design, scheduling, and infrastructure development.
• Analyze geological and engineering data to support project decisions.

Mining Planner

DRA Projects is seeking an experienced Mining Planner to join its Mining team based in Woodmead, Johannesburg. This role is pivotal in supporting mine planning, scheduling, design, and resource-to-reserve conversion across various mining studies and projects.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and optimisation of mining projects by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and delivering practical, cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the mining design team to ensure all mine designs comply with client standards, industry best practises, and relevant legislation.
• Review and assist with mine design and engineering activities to maintain quality and accuracy.
• Provide mining expertise for feasibility studies and techno-economic evaluations.
• Participate actively in mine design and planning, including pit design, mine scheduling, and infrastructure development.
• Collect, analyse, and interpret geological and engineering data to support project assessments and informed decision-making.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and cross‑functional project teams to develop and optimise mining projects.
• Assist in preparing project cost estimates and developing cost-effective mining solutions.
• Utilise specialised mine planning and design software to create models and simulations.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.
• Conduct site visits and fieldwork as required to support project delivery.
• Keep abreast of the latest mining technologies, industry best practises, and emerging developments.

Qualifications & Experience

• Relevant qualifications in Mining, Surveying, Mine Planning, Mine Drafting, or a related discipline.
• Tertiary qualification in Mining, Geology, or another Mineral Resources-related field.
• An advanced qualification in Mineral Resources or a related area would be advantageous.
• 3-5 years' experience in mine scheduling and planning.
• 3-5 years' experience within a Mine Planning department.
• Sound understanding of mining methods, geology, surveying, ventilation, rock engineering, and valuation principles.
• Strong computer literacy with practical experience using mine design software packages such as Deswik, Cadsmine, Xpac, Whittle, and Datamine.

Excellent planning, problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.
