Placements24 seeks a seasoned Mine Operations Manager to lead our client’s underground mining operations near Mahikeng, North West. This senior role focuses on safe, cost-effective ore extraction, overseeing drilling, blasting, development and support activities.

You will manage a large team, drive safety and environmental compliance, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to achieve operational excellence. A Mine Manager’s certification and strong leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering is required.
• 10+ years of progressive underground mining experience with 5+ years in leadership roles.
• Extensive Platinum Group Metals (PGM) mining experience is essential.
• Strong knowledge of mine planning, rock mechanics, ventilation and safety principles.

Our client, a leading producer of Platinum Group Metals (PGM) , is seeking a results-oriented and experienced Mine Operations Manager to oversee their extensive underground mining operations located near Mahikeng, North West Province . This senior leadership position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of ore, managing all aspects of mining production, including drilling, blasting, development, and support activities. The Mine Operations Manager will lead a large team of mining personnel, ensure adherence to stringent safety and environmental standards, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of underground PGM mining methods, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven track record of achieving operational excellence in a complex mining environment. This is a crucial role in ensuring the success and sustainability of the company's flagship operations in South Africa .

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of daily underground mining operations, ensuring production targets are met safely and efficiently.
• Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company's long-term objectives.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of mining supervisors, engineers, and operational staff.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and community regulations.
• Oversee the effective utilization of mining equipment and resources to maximize productivity and minimize costs.
• Implement and drive continuous improvement initiatives across all operational areas.
• Collaborate closely with mine planning, geology, metallurgy, and maintenance departments.
• Manage operational budgets and control expenditures effectively.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments, promoting a strong safety culture.
• Report on operational performance, KPIs, and key challenges to senior management.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in underground mining operations, with at least 5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
• Extensive experience in Platinum Group Metals (PGM) mining operations is essential.
• Proven expertise in various underground mining methods (e.g., narrow reef, bord and pillar, shrinkage stoping).
• Strong understanding of mine planning, rock mechanics, ventilation, and mine safety principles.
• Demonstrated leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• Experience managing large operational budgets and driving cost efficiencies.
• Proficiency in relevant mining software and reporting systems.Must possess a Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (or equivalent).
• Willingness to reside in or commute to the area near Mahikeng , North West Province .
