Job summary

Ikwezi Mining (Pty) Ltd in Mpumalanga seeks an experienced Senior Mining Manager to oversee open-pit operations, lead a multidisciplinary team, and ensure production targets are met. You will drive strategic planning, budget control, and compliance with mining laws, while fostering safety and sustainable practices.

This role requires strong leadership and a proven track record in opencast coal projects. Applicants should have a mining engineering or geology background and relocation flexibility

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or related field.
• Postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum of 8–10 years in open-pit mining, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial role.
• Proven track record in opencast coal operations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and oversee all mining activities to achieve production targets.
• Develop and implement short- and long-term operational plans.
• Monitor and manage equipment to maximize utilization and minimize downtime.
• Enforce compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Lead safety initiatives to achieve zero harm and a strong safety culture.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team and provide training and development.
• Prepare and manage the mine’s budget and control costs.
• Analyze data to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize resources.
• Submit regular reports on production, safety, and performance to stakeholders.
• Liaise with government authorities and community stakeholders as needed.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation.
• Evaluate new technologies to enhance productivity and sustainability.
