Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Mine Health and Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment at its Vereeniging operations. You will conduct inspections, investigations, training, and risk mitigation to uphold the Mine Health and Safety Act and promote a strong safety culture.

The ideal candidate has a Diploma or Degree in Safety Management or related field, at least four years in mining safety, and SAMTRAC or equivalent qualification.

Qualifications

• Requires a National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health, or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience as a Safety Officer in mining.
• SAMTRAC or equivalent safety qualification is essential.
• Knowledge of mining hazards, risk assessment, and control measures.
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor the mine's health and safety management system.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver health and safety training programs to all levels of personnel.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including the Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Advise management on all aspects of occupational health and safety and environmental protection.
