Tiger Brands seeks a skilled Shift Miller to manage oat and other cereal milling operations on the production shift. You will drive efficiency, ensure quality, and uphold safety and maintenance standards across the milling facility.

The role requires a GMF Trade or equivalent Wheat/Maize miller qualification with at least 4 years of hands-on milling experience; oat milling experience is a strong plus. Based at our South Africa facility.

The Shift Miller is a critical operational role in a grain or flour manufacturing facility, responsible for overseeing the entire milling process during their assigned shift to ensure the production of quality products that meet specific standards and customer specifications. This position involves a blend of technical expertise, quality control, maintenance, and, often, personnel supervision.

Main Function:

To manage the Oat mills production efficiencies, people productivity, and overall capacity of the production facility to ensure optimum performance of the plant with regard to product quality, cost, service levels and working capital.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• undefined Asset Management Continuous availability of equipment.
• Reduced down time due to equipment breakdown; Reduced mill costs.
• Operational Achieve target mill yield; Minimise milling downtime; Complete production reports
• Complete quality analysis reports; Adherence to good milling practices.
• Sampling etc. Proficient setting of all plant and equipment to achieve optimal quality and yield; Quality targets achieved; Correct stocks of groats.
• Examination of groats, check all samples, inspection of mill samples.
• In process sample taking and quality control checks.
• Inventory Management Operate the mills according to planned relevant production schedules aligned with the various departments to ensure that orders are met timeously.
• Transfer finished groats products according to packing departments planning schedules.
• Report and investigate mill yields.
• Report on and investigate any stock variances Stock management – Monitoring of in process stocks
• Financial Management Adherence to stores control and recommended reordering levels Optimize production efficiencies i.e. Yield and quality.
• Minimize production rejects; Identify and recommend potential Continuous Improvement projects and savings.
• Corporate Governance Work within a set of systems, principles and processes by which the company is governed; Adherence to all company Policies and Procedures.
• Health and Safety / RISK / Environmental Compliance to Environment and Risk policies and procedures.
• Accident/incidents are minimized; Adherence to the Occupational Health & Safety Act; Adherence to internal company policies, procedures, work instructions, standard operating procedures and job observations; Target zero Disabling Injuries; Efficient use of Utilities; Minimize waste.
• Quality Assurance Storage control, Housekeeping and Cleaning Procedures, Personal Hygiene, Sanitation of plant, Pest Control, Fumigation Compliance to quality specifications.
• Observance of Food Safety programs; Training, Staff Leadership and Teamwork Ascertain Trainee Millers training gaps; Application of and adherence to MECP continuous Improvement programme.
• Maintains open channels of communication; Maintains close liaison with other disciplines at operations to ensure integrated decision making; Encourages the sharing of knowledge and ideas amongst own and other team members.

Key Performance Areas:

• Asset Management Proactive approach to milling repairs and adherence to maintenance programmes i.e. condition of oat milling equipment; condition of all screens and covers; internal monitoring and repair of plan sifters, graders dehullers and cutters. Timeous reporting of mechanical problems.
• Inventory Management Groats model stock levels maintained.
• Manufacturing losses eliminated Financial Management Continuous Improvement; Zero write offs.
• Targeted production efficiencies achieved Corporate Governance Adherence to Company Policies and Procedures; Adds to the value of the company and is also beneficial to all stakeholders in the long term.
• Health and Safety / RISK / Environmental Compliance with Statutory and Company requirements at all times. Achieving targeted scores in all audits.
• Quality Assurance Good Manufacturing Practices in place and maintained; Food Safety adherence; Compliance to Legislation; Decrease in Customer complaints; Training, Staff Leadership and Teamwork Improvement in plant availability and production efficiency %; Reduction in product deviations; High morale.
