Job summary

Samancor in Middelburg Ferrochrome seeks a Maintenance and Engineering Leader responsible for safe, efficient management of plant maintenance, technical systems, and the Capital Investment Portfolio, including Continuous Improvement projects. You will oversee the Diesel Workshop and ensure compliance with the OHS Act.

You will drive asset availability and operational efficiency by applying risk-based maintenance strategies, leading a team, and coordinating with production to define service

Responsibilities

• Identify and assess level of issue-based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
• Apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
• Manage SHEQ compliance within the Section through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status
• Ensure an enabling climate/culture
• Minimise labour turnover by maintaining labour complement in line with budget and achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Section
• Manage performance against set targets and competencies; ensure IDP's linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
• Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
• Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
• Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels; conduct recruitment interviews
• Ensure Customer Satisfaction; liaise with Sites regarding operational performance; define annual Service Level Agreements with plant production personnel; maintain plant at specified performance and comply with technical & legal requirements
• Define equipment criticality using a risk matrix; define and manage maintenance strategy for Middelburg Ferrochrome; maximise Surface Mobile Equipment availability for the Diesel Workshop
• Ensure RCA outcomes are evaluated for business case, implemented as applicable and sustainable; serve as electrical systems SME for the site
• Document and review plant maintenance strategy annually; adhere to maintenance work management principles; manage Engineering Assets to meet designed capacity and refurbish as needed; develop and optimise maintenance plans; adhere to engineering standards; audit asset documentation for standardisation
• Interrogate non-published reports; investigate & communicate commercial exceptions; follow up warranty claims on high critical equipment
• Compile capital applications; maximise project efficiency and profitability; determine project specs and acquire materials; develop scope and parameters for project design and implementation; assign responsibilities; develop and control full project lifecycle; optimise plant capacity; implement value engineering; manage Capital Review meeting

Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To ensure the safe, effective and sustainable management of plant maintenance and technical systems at Middelburg Ferrochrome while driving continuous improvement that maximise asset and plant availability and operational efficiency. To manage the safe and efficient execution of the Capital Investment Portfolio and other Continuous Improvement Projects from start to finish. To support and assist with Legal compliance relating to the OHS Act. To manage the Diesel Workshop.

BUSINESS PROCESSES

Maintenance support:

• Define equipment criticality using a risk matrix
• Define and manage the overall maintenance strategy for Middelburg Ferrochrome
• Maximise Surface Mobile Equipment availability specifically for the Diesel Workshop

Solve problems and implement solutions:

• Ensure that outcomes of RCA's are evaluated for their business case, implemented as applicable and are sustainable
• Serve as electrical systems subject matter expert for the site

Work execution:

• Document and review the plant maintenance strategy on an annual basis to ensure that it is aligned with the business plan
• Ensure strict adherence to maintenance work management principles (percent planned work, adherence to schedule, number of breakdowns, number of proactive requests) to obtain maximum plant availability at minimum maintenance cost per unit produced
• Manage the Engineering Assets to ensure that they produce at their designed capacity and are periodically refurbished to their original condition to ensure optimal life
• Develop and optimise the maintenance plan
• Ensure strict adherence to the relevant engineering standards and specifications
• Periodically audit the asset and documentation to obtain maximum standardisation of spares and new plant installations on the site

Work analysis:
