Job summary

Samancor Chrome is seeking a senior maintenance leader to oversee the safe, efficient management of plant maintenance and technical systems at Middelburg Ferrochrome. You will drive continuous improvement to maximise asset availability and support capital investments and CI projects.

Lead safety, health, environment and quality initiatives, while coaching the maintenance team, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with the OHS Act across the site.

Qualifications

• Experience in managing plant maintenance and technical systems.
• Knowledge of OHS Act and safety compliance.
• Ability to drive continuous improvement and capital project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Manage the maintenance strategy to maximise asset availability and plant efficiency.
• Lead the Capital Investment Portfolio and CI projects from initiation to completion.
• Ensure SHEQ compliance using the IMS toolbox and report status.
• Develop and optimise maintenance plans and schedules for the Diesel Workshop and associated assets.

Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To ensure the safe, effective and sustainable management of plant maintenance and technical systems at Middelburg Ferrochrome while driving continuous improvement that maximise asset and plant availability and operational efficiency. To manage the safe and efficient execution of the Capital Investment Portfolio and other Continuous Improvement Projects from start to finish. To support and assist with Legal compliance relating to the OHS Act. To manage the Diesel Workshop.

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY

• Identify and assess level of issue-based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
• Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
• Manage SHEQ compliance within the Section through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

PEOPLE

Manage The Section

• Ensure an enabling climate/culture
• Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
  • Labour complement in line with budget
  • Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Section
• Manage performance against set targets and competencies
  • Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan

• Liaise and coordinate with Sites regarding the clarification and understanding of operational performance
• Jointly define annual Service Level Agreements with plant production personnel
• Put systems and controls in place that will ensure that the plant is maintained at specified performance and within prescribed technical & legal requirements, that will permit a safe and environmentally acceptable operation, and to meet the required production-rated capacity at minimum life cycle costs

Maintenance Support

• Define equipment criticality using a risk matrix
• Define and manage the overall maintenance strategy for Middelburg Ferrochrome
• Maximise Surface Mobily Equipment availability specifically for the Diesel Workshop

Solve Problems And Implement Solutions

• Ensure that outcomes of RCA’s are evaluated for their business case, implemented as applicable and are sustainable
• Serve as electrical systems subject matter expert for the site

Work Execution

• Document and review the plant maintenance strategy on an annual basis to ensure that it is aligned with the business plan
• Ensure strict adherence to maintenance work management principles (percent planned work, adherence to schedule, number of breakdowns, number of proactive requests) to obtain maximum plant availability at minimum maintenance cost per unit produced
• Manage the Engineering Assets to ensure that they produce at their designed capacity and are periodically refurbished to their original condition to ensure optimal life
• Develop and optimise the maintenance plan
• Ensure strict adherence to the relevant engineering standards and specifications
• Periodically audit the asset and documentation to obtain maximum standardisation of spares and new plant installations on the site

Work Analysis

• Interrogate non-published reports standard
• Investigate & communicate commercial exceptions
• Follow up warranty claims on component failures on high critically equipment

Project Services

• Compile capital applications
• Maximize project efficiency and profitability
• Determine project specifications and acquire the necessary materials for completion
• Develop scope and parameters for project design and implementation
• Identify project responsibilities, delegating phases and elements to the appropriate personnel
• Develop and control the full project-plan lifecycle
• Optimise plant capacity
• Implement value engineering projects where required
• Manage the Capital Review meeting

• Support the Engineering Manager in legally assigned duties

• Manage Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence
