Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Mechanical Fitter for a Welkom-based role in the heavy industrial sector. You will assemble, install, maintain, and repair large-scale machinery, ensuring operational integrity and safety in challenging environments.

The ideal candidate holds a recognized trade qualification or a long apprenticeship, with proven experience reading drawings and working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Qualifications

• Qualified Mechanical Fitter with a recognized trade qualification or extensive apprenticeship background.
• Experience in fitting and machining of heavy industrial machinery.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, and commission heavy machinery per specs.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on pumps, engines, conveyors, hydraulics.
• Diagnose faults and disassemble components to identify issues and plan repair.
• Repair or replace worn parts to ensure proper fit and function.
• Use hand and power tools, including lathes and milling machines as needed.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance and parts used.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, and commission new heavy machinery and mechanical systems according to technical drawings and specifications.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment such as pumps, engines, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and failures, disassembling components as necessary to identify issues and determine repair strategies.
• Repair or replace worn or defective parts, ensuring proper fit and function of all mechanical components.
• Use a range of hand and power tools, including precision measuring instruments, lathes, and milling machines where applicable.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, and parts used, contributing to asset management.

Requirements

• Qualified Mechanical Fitter with a recognized trade qualification or extensive apprenticeship background.
• Demonstrable experience in fitting and machining, with a strong focus on heavy industrial machinery.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, welding, and fabrication is advantageous.
