Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a mining equipment client in Upington, Northern Cape. The role emphasizes design and development of robust machinery for harsh environments, with emphasis on CAD and simulation-driven validation.

You will create detailed designs, perform analyses, and ensure manufacturing-ready drawings while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience in heavy machinery or mining equipment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA).
• Experience with engineering simulation tools (FEA, CFD).
• Knowledge of materials science, stress analysis, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for heavy mining equipment.
• Conduct structural, thermal, and dynamic analyses to ensure performance.
• Create manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and technical specs.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure feasible designs.
• Test prototypes and validate existing designs; troubleshoot issues.
• Research new materials and technologies for mining applications.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Provide technical support to sales and service teams.
