About the Role

Our client, a prominent manufacturer of specialized industrial machinery, is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their dedicated team in Rustenburg . This role is crucial for the development of innovative and robust machinery solutions tailored to the mining and heavy industry sectors. You will be involved in the entire design lifecycle, from initial concept generation and feasibility studies through to detailed design, prototyping, testing, and production support. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in mechanical principles, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for creating efficient and reliable engineering designs. You will work closely with manufacturing, quality control, and project management teams to ensure designs meet stringent performance and safety requirements. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop new mechanical components and systems for industrial machinery using CAD software.
• Perform engineering calculations and simulations (e.g., stress analysis, fatigue analysis) to validate design concepts and ensure structural integrity.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing and procurement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, electrical engineering, and project management, to ensure design feasibility and successful product integration.
• Oversee prototype development and conduct rigorous testing to verify performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during the manufacturing and operational phases of machinery.
• Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, and manufacturing processes to enhance product performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of product designs and engineering processes.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Document design changes and maintain accurate engineering records.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience (5+ years) in mechanical design, preferably within the industrial machinery or heavy equipment sector.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) and related engineering analysis tools.
• Solid understanding of mechanical principles, including statics, dynamics, materials science, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with various manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, casting, and fabrication.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a manufacturing environment.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
• Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations relevant to heavy machinery.
• This is an on-site position requiring regular presence in our Rustenburg facility.
