Job summary

Scistaff is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its growing team in Johannesburg. The role involves meeting with customers to discuss product requirements, quoting, and creating CAD designs with manufacturing drawings for production.

You will oversee prototype development, assemble and validate designs, run tests, and manage project timelines, suppliers and budgets. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

• BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 5 years of design experience in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• SolidWorks experience is essential for this role.
• Experience with valves, brackets, mounting kits or actuators is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Meet with customers to discuss requirements for new products and alterations.
• Create CAD designs followed by manufacturing drawings for production teams.
• Oversee development and manufacturing of prototypes and ensure fit-for-purpose assemblies.
• Run physical tests on prototypes as required and document results.
• Manage project timelines, supplier relationships and budgets.
• Prepare technical reports, work instructions, and design specifications.

Job description

A company that designs and manufactures equipment for the mining, petroleum, chemical and transport industries requires a Mechanical Engineer to join their growing team. Key duties will include: Meeting with new and existing customers to discuss requirements on new products to be designed. Quoting customers on new and existing products. Creating CAD designs followed by manufacturing drawings for the production team. Overseeing the development and manufacturing of prototypes. Assembling all prototypes designed to make sure they are fit for purpose. Running physical tests on prototypes if required. Managing project timelines, suppliers and budgets. Preparing technical reports including work instructions, operational reports as well as design specifications.
Key Requirements: BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years’ design experience. Experience with 3D CAD modelling in Solidworks is essential. Experience with valves, brackets, mounting kits or actuators will be beneficial.
Additional Requirements: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent problem solving and time management skills. Must be able to work in a team environment as well as perform well with minimal supervision. Candidate must be proactive and take initiative. Sound mechanical aptitude and knowledge. Able to work under pressure and to deadlines.
