Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and oversee materials testing activities for construction projects (concrete, asphalt, soil, steel).
• Conduct laboratory and field tests to assess material properties and performance.
• Interpret test results and prepare technical reports with recommendations.
• Ensure testing activities comply with SANS and project specs.
• Collaborate with site engineers, contractors and clients on material issues.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory testing equipment.
• Provide technical guidance on material selection and QA.
• Help develop material specifications and QA plans.
• Troubleshoot material failures and recommend corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and oversee materials testing activities for construction projects, including concrete, asphalt, soil, and steel.
• Conduct laboratory and field tests to assess material properties and performance.
• Interpret test results and prepare comprehensive technical reports with recommendations.
• Ensure all testing activities comply with relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and project specifications.
• Collaborate with site engineers, contractors, and clients to address material-related issues.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory testing equipment.
• Provide technical guidance on material selection, application, and quality control.
• Assist in the development of material specifications and quality assurance plans.
• Troubleshoot material failures and propose corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records of all testing activities and results for projects in Upington .

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Candidate Engineer (Pr Engr) is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in materials engineering, particularly in construction materials testing and quality assurance.
• In‑depth knowledge of construction materials, their properties, and performance characteristics.
• Proficiency in various material testing procedures and equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent report‑writing and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple testing programs simultaneously.
• Familiarity with the construction industry and project requirements in the Northern Cape .
• Valid driver's license.
