Job summary

Red Ember Recruitment is seeking an External Sales Consultant for our client in Durban to drive new business in the shipping sector.

The role requires a minimum of 8 client visits per week, strong client retention, tender negotiations, and the ability to liaise with principals and customers. Applicants should have shipping and ship’s agency sales experience, a valid driver’s license, and proficiency in MS Office. A maritime studies/import/export qualification is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years shipping experience in shipping or related environment.
• At least 2 years sales experience in ship’s agency sales.
• Tertiary qualification in maritime studies or import/export advantageous.
• Interpersonal and client-management skills required.
• Team player with ability to work under pressure.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email.
• Valid Driver’s license and good time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Minimum of 8 client visits per week to develop new business.
• Identify and secure new clients while maintaining existing relationships.
• Prepare and check SQs, and handle freight rate quotations and routings.
• Provide customer support for shipment queries and liaise with principals.
• Assist with tenders and freight contract negotiations and tender preparation.
• Maintain database updates and organize client entertaining events.
