Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Mossel Bay, Western Cape location. The role focuses on designing and developing mechanical systems for marine vessels and offshore structures, collaborating with naval architects and manufacturing teams.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years of marine design experience, and strong CAD skills with knowledge of shipbuilding processes and maritime standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience, preferably marine/offshore.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and understanding of shipbuilding.
• Knowledge of maritime regulations and classification rules.
• Strong analytical and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and document mechanical systems for marine applications.
• Use CAD software for detailed design and drafting.
• Perform stress, CFD, and thermal simulations.
• Collaborate with naval architects and other engineers to ensure integrated system design.
• Ensure designs comply with maritime standards and classification rules.
• Oversee mechanical aspects during vessel construction and commissioning.
• Maintain documentation and drawings for marine mechanical systems.
