Job summary

Ad Hoc Client is seeking a Maintenance Technician to oversee the PV plant's LV/MV electrical systems, with focus on SCADA monitoring and fault finding. You will lead a small team or assist, performing preventative and corrective maintenance to maximize uptime while upholding safety standards.

The role requires an electrical engineering qualification or ORHVS, valid driver's license, and 2–5 years in solar PV or utility environments, with responsibility for maintenance records and reports.

Qualifications

  • N6/National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required.
  • ORHVS certification advantageous.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • 2–5 years’ maintenance experience; must have an assistant or manage a small team.
  • Experience in solar PV and utility environments advantageous.
  • Knowledge of LV and MV electrical systems.
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting LV/MV systems.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Computer literacy and ability to complete electronic maintenance records.
  • SCADA experience (2–5 years).

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative, corrective and scheduled maintenance on the solar PV plant.
  • Inspect, maintain and troubleshoot PV modules, DC systems, combiner boxes and inverters.
  • Perform maintenance and fault finding on LV/MV electrical systems.
  • Assist with maintenance of transformers, switchgear and associated electrical equipment.
  • Conduct inspections, testing and functional checks of plant equipment.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and restore equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Identify potential equipment failures and report abnormalities.
  • Complete maintenance work orders, inspection sheets and technical reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities.
  • Assist contractors and specialist service providers during maintenance activities.
  • Ensure tools, test equipment and maintenance areas are maintained in good condition.
  • Support planned shutdowns and major maintenance activities.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments and safety inspections.
  • Monitoring the plant on SCADA and resolving the alarms.

The successful candidate must strictly comply with all site health and safety requirements, including:

  • Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures.
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and electrical isolation procedures.
  • Electrical safety and safe switching procedures.
  • Working-at-heights requirements.
  • Risk assessments and safe work procedures.
  • Emergency response procedures.
  • Environmental requirements and site rules.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

  • N6 / National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Qualified Electrician / Red Seal Trade Certificate will be advantageous.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • 2–5 years’ relevant maintenance experience, must have an assistant or manage small team.
  • Experience in solar PV, utility environments will be advantageous.
  • ORHVS certification
  • Knowledge of LV and MV electrical systems.
  • Experience with fault finding and troubleshooting of LV/MV electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Computer literacy and ability to complete electronic maintenance records.
  • Working-at-heights, First Aid and other relevant safety training will be advantageous.
  • Experience using a CMMS or maintenance management system would be advantageous.
