Job summary

Staff Solutions is seeking an experienced maintenance technician for on-site work at a facility in South Africa. The role requires hands-on maintenance across cold storage areas, buildings and grounds with a focus on preventing downtime and protecting product quality.

You will perform welding, metalwork, plumbing, painting and mechanical repairs, maintain refrigeration infrastructure and coordinate with technicians and contractors.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial/commercial/warehousing setting.
• Practical skills in welding, fabrication, plumbing and general facility maintenance.
• Experience in mechanical maintenance, fault diagnosis and preventative servicing.
• Knowledge of cold storage facilities and industrial refrigeration equipment.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting appropriate to qualifications and scope of work.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and complete practical repairs.
• Strong planning, communication and organisational skills; coordinate contractors.
• A relevant trade qualification will be an advantage; valid driver’s licence is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for general maintenance and repair of the facility including cold storage areas, buildings, dispatch bays and grounds.
• Carry out hands-on maintenance such as welding, metalwork, plumbing, painting, mechanical repairs and general building repairs.
• Maintain cold room doors, insulation panels, seals, drainage and related infrastructure.
• Perform regular maintenance checks and preventative maintenance to avoid breakdowns.
• Identify refrigeration and electrical issues and arrange for specialised technicians as needed.
• Service and maintain pumps, motors, ventilation fans, industrial doors, gates and workshop machinery.
• Control maintenance expenditure and oversee contractors, tools, spare parts and stock.
• Attend to emergency repairs quickly to reduce downtime and protect fruit quality.

• Carry out hands-on maintenance tasks such as welding, metalwork, plumbing, painting, mechanical repairs and general building repairs.


• Maintain cold room doors, insulation panels, seals, drainage and other related infrastructure.


• Perform regular maintenance checks, detect potential problems and carry out preventative maintenance to avoid breakdowns.


• Identify refrigeration and electrical issues and arrange for specialised technicians to attend to repairs when necessary.


• Service and maintain pumps, motors, ventilation fans, industrial doors, gates and workshop machinery.


• Control maintenance expenditure and oversee contractors, tools, spare parts and maintenance stock.


• Attend to emergency repairs quickly to reduce downtime and prevent disruptions to storage and export activities.


• Maintain a safe, hygienic working environment and ensure that all maintenance activities meet the required safety standards and protect fruit quality.

Minimum Requirements:

• A minimum of 5 years' hands-on maintenance experience in an industrial, commercial, agricultural, warehousing or similar setting.


• Practical skills in welding, fabrication, plumbing and general facility maintenance.


• Previous experience in mechanical maintenance, fault diagnosis and preventative servicing.


• Working knowledge of cold storage facilities and industrial refrigeration equipment.


• Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, appropriate to the candidate's qualifications and authorised scope of work.


• Ability to work with minimal supervision, identify faults and complete practical repairs.


• Good planning, communication and organisational skills, including the ability to coordinate contractors.


• A relevant trade qualification will be an advantage, as will a valid driver's licence.
