Job summary

Sovereign in South Africa seeks a Maintenance Assistant for its Broiler operations. The role focuses on basic, preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment, machinery and infrastructure to support production KPIs.

Reporting to the Farm Manager, the successful candidate will have a Grade 12 certificate and at least 1 year experience in mechanical or electrical repairs, with a hands-on, detail‑oriented approach and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

• Must have Grade 12 or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of mechanical or electrical repair/maintenance experience.
• Experience in farm or industrial maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Preventative cyclical maintenance and repairs.
• Ensure uptime of feeding, drinking, heating and ventilation equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and call-outs in a timely manner.
• Complete job cards per job with detail to build history.
• Meet Health and Safety standards and enforce LOTO procedures.
• Maintain workshop and on-site housekeeping to high standards.
• Adhere to SOPs within maintenance and operations.
• Assist Safety Representatives with monthly audits.

Job description

Sovereign, a national supplier of quality chicken products to various markets with operations in five provinces, is seeking a thorough and committed individual for the position of Maintenance Assistant for its Broiler operations in the Agricultural division. The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for addressing basic, preventative andcorrective maintenance needs on equipment, machinery and infrastructure to ensure that Broiler farms remainoperation and support the production teams' KPI's. This position reports to the Farm Manager and holds the TASKGrade T06. The ideal candidate must be in possession of a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent and have 1 year's experience in mechanical or electrical repairs and maintenance.

Results Required:

• Preventative cyclical maintenance and repairs.
• Ensure uptime of critical feeding / drinking / heating and ventilation equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns and call-outs in a timeous manner.
• Complete job cards, per job, correctly and in detail to build history.
• Meet legislated Health and Safety standards; enforce LOTO procedures and toolbox talks.
• Ensure excellent housekeeping in farm workshop and whilst on the job.
• Adhere to prescribed SOPs within maintenance and operations.
• Assist Safety Representatives with their monthly audits in the work areas.
