Job summary

Sovereign Foods Ltd in South Africa seeks a thorough Electrician for its Breeders operations. You will perform planned and preventative maintenance on poultry farm equipment, electrical motors, and starter panels, following standard procedures.

The role requires a trade certificate and hands-on maintenance experience, with standby duties after hours and weekends. Reporting to the Breeders Maintenance Manager, the successful candidate will help ensure reliability and biosecurity across farms,

Qualifications

• Must understand electronics and PLC controls.

• Ability to troubleshoot in detail and use a computer.

Responsibilities

• Maintain poultry farm equipment to original equipment manufacturers specs.
• Comply with service interval requirements for each machine type.
• Address maintenance issues according to national standards.
• Ensure allocated job cards are attended to on time.
• Maintain site housekeeping per Biosecurity Risk Control factors.
• Initiate emergency procedures when equipment issues occur.
• Identify and report on risk-related issues.
• Keep spares stock recording up to date.
• Perform preventive maintenance work.
• Plan, schedule and perform cycle maintenance to prepare poultry houses for placements.
• Attend maintenance of electrical, mechanical and basic plumbing systems on poultry farms.

Job description

Sovereign, a national supplier of quality chicken products to various markets with operations in five provinces, is seeking a thorough and committed individual for the position of Electrician for its Breeders operations in the Agriculture division. Electrician is responsible for ongoing, planned and preventative maintenance, according to standard Breeders operating procedures. This position reports to the Breeders Maintenance Manager and holds the TASK Grade T10. Knowledge of SANS10142 Standards will be advantageous. The ideal candidate must be in possession of an Electrical Trade Test Certificate and have 2 years’ hands on maintenance experience of Electrical motors and starter panels.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Poultry farm equipment to original equipment manufacturers specs;
• Comply to service interval requirements of each individual machine types;
• Address maintenance issues according to National standards.
• Ensure that allocated job cards are timeously attended to;
• Ensure site housekeeping as per Biosecurity Risk Control factors;
• Initiate emergency procedures when equipment issues occur;
• Identify and report on Risk related issues;
• Ensure that all spares and stock of spares are kept and recorded;
• Do preventive maintenance work.
• Plan, schedule and perform cycle maintenance to prepare Poultry houses for placements.
• Attend to maintenance of Electrical, mechanical and basic plumbing systems on Poultry farms.
