Job summary

Stellenbosch University’s Department of Genetics invites applications for a Lecturer in Genetics within the Faculty of AgriSciences. The incumbent will teach genetics, biotechnology and/or biometry modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and will integrate into one of the institute's research groups focusing on human, animal or plant genetics and biotechnology.

Qualifications

• PhD in Genetics (or closely aligned discipline) with clear evidence of specialization in genetics or plant/animal breeding.
• Proven research experience in a genetics sub-discipline with applications in human, animal, or plant genetics and biotechnology.
• Strong record of bioinformatic analyses, statistical genetics and/or data science using omics/high-throughput data.
• Peer-reviewed publications in genetics or aligned fields.
• Experience supervising postgraduate students in genetics.
• Ability and willingness to obtain external funding to sustain a productive research programme.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary research team.
• Ability to establish international research collaborations in genetics or related fields.
• Experience in teaching, learning and assessment in higher education.
• Experience in academic administration and management.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating, administering, and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in genetics, biotechnology and/or biometry.
• Supervising postgraduate students at BSc(Hons), MSc, and PhD levels.
• Conducting research in genetics sub-disciplines with applications in human, animal or plant genetics/biotechnology.
• Publishing in peer‑reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
• Collaborating with industries to secure external funding for research.
• Developing regional, national and international academic and research networks.
• Engaging in administrative service delivery at IPBB and through department and faculty channels.
