Qualifications

• PhD in Food Science or related field with specialization in food microbiology, food safety or food hygiene.
• Experience in teaching food science modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Experience supervising postgraduate students at master's and doctoral levels.
• Emerging research record with peer-reviewed publications in the field.
• Ability to identify, apply for and secure external research funding.
• Ability to manage and operate a food microbiology or food safety research laboratory.
• Competence in developing, establishing and applying relevant microbiological, molecular and analytical techniques.
• Experience with advanced technologies relevant to food microbiology and food safety, including whole genome sequencing (WGS).
• Proficiency in standard computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Competence in statistical and data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to curriculum development and review, and developing module content and assessments.
• Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Food Science and related areas.
• Developing innovative teaching and learning approaches to enhance engagement and outcomes.
• Preparing and updating module content, assessments, and learning resources.
• Assessing and providing feedback on coursework, tests and exams.
• Advising and mentoring students on projects and theses.
• Supervision and co-supervision of master's and PhD students.
• Developing and growing an active research programme aligned with the department.
• Publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and securing funding.
• Building national research and industry partnerships and managing funded projects.
