Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide academic literacy support and development to students. Offer workshops and teach academic literacy to students.
• Develop academic literacy materials and sources for use by students and staff.
• Assist academic staff to integrate academic literacy into their subjects and programmes. Conduct research and publish on academic literacy.
• Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the department and develop links with industry.

Job Purpose

The overall objective of the job is to support students' academic literacy development and skills such as reading and academic writing, conducting basic research and understanding discipline-specific literacies and discourses. The main goal of the job is to support students and staff in enhancing their academic literacy skills. Students are supported through one-one consultations, group study consultations and collaborative teaching. The candidate will develop appropriate learning and teaching materials as well as computer-based learning materials andshall be required to conduct research and publish in the area of academic literacy.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Relevant experience in student support and development.
• Ability to teach in English, as well as isiXhosa and/or Afrikaans.
