Description
Lead the Learning & Development function across Minopex by translating business priorities into practical capability-building solutions. The role drives critical and scarce skills development, leadership capability, regulatory compliance, talent pipelines, digital learning and workforce readiness across South African and international operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
L&D Strategy & Governance
- Develop and execute the Minopex L&D strategy in support of business, workforce and operational priorities.
- Establish clear L&D frameworks, standards and governance across Head Office and operational sites.
- Use workforce data and business needs to prioritise learning investment and continuously improve delivery.
Skills Development & Compliance
- Lead skills development planning, reporting and compliance across MQA, QCTO, WSP/ATR, Mining Charter, SLP and related requirements.
- Maintain effective accreditation, training-record and audit-ready evidence systems, including support for B-BBEE verification.
- Identify and manage L&D compliance risks, audit findings and corrective actions.
Capability, Talent & Leadership Development
- Build sustainable pipelines for critical and scarce skills through learnerships, graduate programmes and structured development pathways.
- Partner with Organisational Development to strengthen succession readiness, career pathways and leadership capability.
- Develop practical supervisor and leadership programmes focused on safety, performance, client engagement and people leadership.
International Capability & Localisation
- Lead learning and capability development across EMEA projects, supporting mobilisation, operational readiness and skills-transfer commitments.
- Drive localisation and knowledge-transfer strategies that build sustainable local capability and reduce dependency on expatriate skills.
- Ensure international learning initiatives align with contractual, legislative and local-country requirements.
Learning Effectiveness, Digital Learning & Innovation
- Ensure learning programmes are based on identified business needs and supported by consistent design, delivery and evaluation standards.
- Measure learning effectiveness, capability improvement and return on investment, and use the results to improve future interventions.
- Drive effective use of LMS, e-learning, blended learning and scalable digital learning solutions.
Stakeholder & Team Leadership
- Partner with operational leaders to identify capability gaps and translate them into practical learning solutions.
- Build effective relationships with training providers, regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
- Lead, coach and develop the L&D team, including site-based Training Officers, with clear priorities and performance expectations.
Qualification Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Relevant Degree or National Diploma (essential)
- Recognised ETDP qualification at NQF Level 5 (essential)
- Valid Red Ticket (essential)
- ISO Internal Auditor qualification (advantageous)
- Relevant Processing Plant, Engineering or Mining qualification (advantageous)
Experience and SkillsRequirements
- 5–8+ years’ Learning & Development experience at management level
- Experience within mining, engineering or heavy industry environments
- Strong knowledge of skills development requirements, including MQA, QCTO, WSP/ATR, Mining Charter and SLP
- Proven ability to develop and implement L&D strategies aligned to workforce and business priorities
- Experience in leadership development, succession, talent pipelines and structured learning programmes
- Experience with Learning Management Systems, digital learning and blended learning solutions
- Strong analytical capability, including measurement of learning impact, effectiveness and ROI.
