Placements24 is seeking a Senior Sustainable Design Architect in Centurion, Gauteng, to lead eco-friendly design initiatives across projects. The role emphasizes minimizing environmental impact, enhancing occupant well-being, and driving green building certifications like LEED/EDGE/Green Star.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in Architecture with a sustainability specialization, 6+ years of relevant experience, and accreditation (LEED AP/EDGE Expert).

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Architecture with a specialization in Sustainable Design or Environmental Architecture.
• 6+ years of experience in architectural design with a focus on sustainable/green practices.
• LEED AP or EDGE Expert accreditation is essential.
• Proficiency in energy modeling software (IES VE, EnergyPlus) and life cycle assessment tools.
• Strong understanding of passive design, renewable energy, and water conservation.
• Excellent knowledge of South African building codes and environmental legislation.
• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience in Gauteng region preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of sustainable design strategies for architectural projects.
• Conduct energy modeling and performance simulations to optimize building efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
• Research and select sustainable materials and technologies, considering lifecycle assessments and environmental certifications.
• Collaborate with clients, engineers, and consultants to integrate green building principles into project designs.
• Prepare documentation and manage applications for green building certifications (LEED, EDGE, Green Star).
• Educate project teams and stakeholders on sustainable design best practices and emerging technologies.
• Monitor environmental performance of completed projects and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Stay current with advancements in sustainable architecture, building science, and environmental regulations.
• Contribute to the firm’s knowledge base and thought leadership in sustainable design.
