Placements24 is seeking a Senior Sustainable Design Architect for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will lead sustainable strategies, energy modeling, and guide teams in achieving high-performance, environmentally certified designs.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in architectural design with a focus on sustainability, fluent in remote collaboration, and familiar with SA regulations. This position offers flexible nationwide opportunities and extensive professional growth.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture or related discipline.
• 8+ years in architectural design with sustainable focus.
• Experience with energy modeling software (IES VE, EnergyPlus) and Green Star/LEED certification.
• Knowledge of passive design, renewable energy, and sustainable materials.
• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication for remote client interactions.
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote environment.
• Familiarity with South African building regulations and sustainability initiatives.
• WELL Building Standard experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead integrating sustainable design across the project lifecycle.
• Perform energy modeling and life cycle assessments.
• Guide teams in selecting sustainable materials and systems.
• Oversee green certifications (Green Star, EDGE, LEED).
• Research emerging sustainable technologies and best practices.
• Develop and present sustainability strategies to clients.
• Collaborate with consultants to optimize building performance.
• Mentor junior architects and sustainability staff.
• Help develop firm sustainability guidelines and standards.
• Champion sustainable design principles within the firm.
