Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Head Sommelier for a renowned Paarl wine estate and award-winning restaurant. You will curate and manage the cellar, lead wine service, and develop a tasting-focused program that enhances dining experiences.

The role requires at least 5 years as a sommelier, with advanced wine certifications and strong leadership and staff-training abilities. Flexible hours including evenings and weekends are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years as a sommelier with 2+ years in a head role.
• Advanced wine certifications preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of international and local wines.
• Ability to develop and manage wine lists and control costs.
• Strong communication and training skills.

Responsibilities

• Curate, manage and maintain the wine cellar with inventory control.
• Update wine list to complement cuisine and estate vintages.
• Provide expert wine recommendations and pairings to guests.
• Educate and train front-of-house staff on wine knowledge and service.
• Oversee all aspects of wine service and cost management.
• Conduct tastings and stay abreast of global wine trends.
• Collaborate with Executive Chef on wine pairings.
