The ideal candidate has 8+ years in solar PV design, strong leadership, and proficiency with PVsyst and AutoCAD. Pr Eng registration is desirable. Opportunity to travel for flagship projects across South Africa.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 8 years in solar PV design and engineering.
Experience with utility-scale solar projects and grid integration.
Proficiency in PVsyst and AutoCAD; strong project leadership.
Pr Eng registration is desirable.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a leader in the renewable energy sector, is actively searching for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Solar PV Engineer to join their growing team in Cape Town, Western Cape . This pivotal role involves overseeing the design, development, and implementation of large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the company's mission of expanding sustainable energy infrastructure across South Africa. This position demands a blend of technical expertise, project management acumen, and a strategic vision for solar energy solutions. You will work within a dedicated team focused on delivering high-quality, efficient solar installations, from initial concept through to grid connection and operational handover. This is an exciting opportunity to lead significant projects and shape the future of solar energy in the region.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and engineering of utility-scale and commercial solar PV systems.
Oversee the selection of solar components, including PV modules, inverters, and mounting structures.
Perform site assessments, yield estimations, and financial modeling for solar projects.
Manage the development process from feasibility studies to detailed design and permitting.
Ensure designs comply with all relevant electrical codes, standards, and client specifications.
Collaborate closely with project managers, construction teams, and external stakeholders.
Conduct technical reviews and provide engineering support throughout the project lifecycle.
Mentor and guide junior engineers and design staff.
Stay abreast of the latest advancements and technologies in solar PV.
Contribute to the development of best practices and engineering standards within the organization.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in solar PV system design and engineering.
Demonstrated expertise in utility-scale solar project development.
In-depth knowledge of PVsyst, AutoCAD, and other relevant design software.
Strong understanding of electrical grid integration and power systems.
Experience with site assessment tools and techniques.
Excellent project management and leadership skills.
Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration is highly desirable.
