Placements24 is seeking an experienced Lead Solar Project Manager to oversee large-scale PV projects in George and beyond, with a hybrid work arrangement for optimal oversight and collaboration.

You will coordinate site development, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning while liaising with clients, contractors and regulators to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of high-quality solar assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• PMP certification is highly desirable.
• 7+ years in project management, with renewable energy/solar PV focus.
• Proven ability to manage multi-million rand energy projects.
• Strong knowledge of solar technology and SA regulations.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Lead Solar Project Manager to oversee the successful execution of large-scale solar photovoltaic projects in the George region and beyond. This role demands a strategic thinker with a proven ability to manage complex projects from inception through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will be a key figure in coordinating site development, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities. This Hybrid position offers a blend of remote work flexibility and essential on-site engagement, allowing for optimal project oversight and team collaboration. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of solar project lifecycles and challenges within the South African energy landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets for solar PV installations.
• Manage and coordinate all project phases, including site selection, design, permitting, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
• Lead and mentor project teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
• Liaise with stakeholders, including clients, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
• Oversee risk management and implement mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental requirements.
• Monitor project progress, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Manage contract negotiations and administer project contracts.
• Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management and clients.
• Drive continuous improvement in project execution processes and methodologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; PMP certification is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in project management, with a significant focus on renewable energy or solar PV projects.
• Demonstrated success in managing multi-million rand energy projects from concept to completion.
• Strong understanding of solar technology, construction processes, and relevant South African regulations.
• Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
• Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Experience working in a Hybrid work model.
