Placements24 is seeking a Lead Security Engineer to spearhead security initiatives from George, Western Cape. You will design, implement, and maintain advanced security architectures and drive the organization’s security roadmap. This role emphasizes risk mitigation, compliance with standards, and leadership across distributed teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• 7+ years of information security experience with at least 3 years in a leadership or lead engineer role.
• Experience designing and implementing complex security infrastructures.
• Proficiency in scripting languages for automation.
• Deep understanding of network security, cloud security (AWS, Azure), endpoint security, and application security.
• Experience with security assessment methodologies and tools.
• Strong knowledge of cryptography, IAM, and data loss prevention (DLP).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Experience working with geographically distributed teams is a plus.
• Willingness to engage with security challenges relevant to George area.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-wide security solutions and architectures.
• Oversee the management and tuning of security infrastructure, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, WAFs, and SIEM systems.
• Conduct threat modeling, risk assessments, and security architecture reviews for new and existing systems.
• Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures across the organization.
• Lead incident response activities, including investigation, containment, eradication, and recovery.
• Mentor and guide junior security engineers and analysts.
• Evaluate and recommend new security technologies and tools to enhance the organization’s security posture.
• Ensure security compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., POPIA, GDPR).
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure security is integrated into the DevOps lifecycle.
