Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Process Safety Engineer for a Centurion-based role in the Oil & Gas sector. You will lead process safety programs, PHAs, HAZOP/LOPA/FMEA, and drive safety culture across operations.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, 10+ years in process safety, and strong knowledge of PSM elements (OSHA, EPA RMP). Experience with SIS and IEC 61511 is highly desirable, along with leadership skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years in process safety engineering within Oil & Gas.
• Extensive knowledge of PSM elements (OSHA, EPA RMP).
• Proven experience in leading PHAs (HAZOP/LOPA/FMEA).
• Strong risk assessment and consequence modelling experience.
• Professional certification in process safety desirable.
• Familiarity with SIS and IEC 61511.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive process safety management (PSM) programs.
• Lead and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international process safety regulations and standards.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to relevant personnel.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Oversee the management of change (MOC) process for all modifications to process equipment and procedures.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance and identify potential hazards.
• Develop and maintain safety-critical equipment (SCE) integrity management plans.
• Mentor and guide junior process safety engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in process safety engineering within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Extensive knowledge of PSM elements (e.g., OSHA , EPA RMP).
• Proven experience in conducting and leading PHAs.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and consequence modeling.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and analytic skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Professional certification in process safety (e.g., CCPSC) is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and functional safety standards (IEC 61511).
