About the Role

Our client, a major player in the Oil & Gas industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their dedicated team. This pivotal role is based in Centurion, Gauteng, a strategic hub for industry and innovation. The Senior Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and safety of our client's processing facilities, implementing robust safety management systems, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This position requires a deep understanding of process safety principles, hazard analysis, and risk management within the demanding context of the energy sector. The hybrid work model offers flexibility, allowing for a blend of on-site analysis and collaboration with remote work, supporting a healthy work-life balance in Centurion, Gauteng.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop, implement, and manage Process Safety Management (PSM) systems.
• Ensure compliance with relevant national and international process safety standards and regulations.
• Perform Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments and verification.
• Review engineering designs and modifications to ensure process safety is maintained or enhanced.
• Investigate process safety incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to engineers, operators, and other relevant personnel.
• Oversee the management of safety-critical equipment and instrumentation.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of emergency response plans.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization and engage with site operations teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety engineering, specifically within the Oil & Gas or petrochemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of PHA methodologies (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA) and SIL assessment.
• Proven experience in implementing and managing PSM programs.
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, API, NFPA).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills.
• Strong leadership and communication abilities, with experience in training and mentoring.
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience with process simulation software and safety analysis tools is a plus.
