Placements24 is seeking an experienced Lead Automotive Mechanical Engineer in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will lead a team, drive powertrain development, and oversee projects from design to testing while collaborating across functions to ensure performance, fuel economy and emissions targets are met.

The role requires 8+ years in automotive powertrains, 3+ years in a lead capacity, and strong expertise in engines, transmissions, and emissions control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's in mechanical engineering; PhD preferred.
• 8+ years in automotive powertrain development; 3+ years in leadership.
• Deep knowledge of engines, thermodynamics, combustion, and emissions control.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of automotive mechanical engineers in design and development of advanced powertrain systems.
• Oversee lifecycle of powertrain projects from concept to testing and validation.
• Analyze powertrain performance, efficiency, and emissions using simulations and tests.
• Develop solutions to improve engine performance and fuel economy while reducing emissions.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, purchasing and QA to ensure integration and production.
• Define technical specs for powertrain components and systems.
• Manage timelines, budgets, and resources.
• Stay updated on powertrain tech, trends and regulations.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders.
• Contribute to strategic direction of powertrain development.
