Placements24 seeks a Senior Pharmaceutical Formulation Scientist to lead development of drug formulations in Mossel Bay, with a hybrid work model requiring significant on-site lab presence. You will drive pre-formulation studies, scale-up manufacturing processes, and manage cross-functional teams to bring new products to regulatory readiness.

The ideal candidate has a PhD, 6+ years in formulation development, and a track record across multiple dosage forms, including at least one specialty area.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of progressive pharmaceutical formulation development experience.
• Proven track record in developing a range of dosage forms, with expertise in at least one area (oral solids, sterile injectables).
• Experience with GMP manufacturing and regulatory requirements for drug product development.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and optimization of various pharmaceutical dosage forms (oral solids, liquids, injectables, topicals).
• Conduct pre-formulation studies and physicochemical characterization of drug substances and excipients.
• Develop robust and scalable manufacturing processes for drug products.
• Perform stability studies and analyze data to determine shelf-life and storage conditions.
• Collaborate with analytical development teams to establish testing methods.
• Prepare technical reports and submissions for regulatory filings (IND, NDA).
• Mentor and guide junior scientists and technicians in the formulation development team.
• Ensure compliance with GMP and safety regulations.
