Placements24 is seeking an experienced Lead Mining Engineer for a major mining operation in Rustenburg, North West. You will lead underground and open-pit programs across PGM extraction, drive safety, efficiency and profitability, and set technical direction for the mine.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA is required.
• 10+ years in mining operations with senior/lead experience.
• Extensive PGM mining experience in the Rustenburg area preferred.
• Experience with mine planning software and underground methods.

About the Role

A major mining operation in Rustenburg, North West , is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Mining Engineer to oversee its extensive platinum group metals (PGM) extraction activities. This leadership role demands a strategic thinker capable of optimizing mining operations for safety, efficiency, and profitability. You will be responsible for the technical direction of the mine, ensuring the implementation of best practices in underground and open-pit mining methodologies. This is a critical position within a company committed to responsible resource extraction and technological innovation in the mining sector of North West province. The role is based in the heart of South Africa's PGM mining region, offering direct impact and significant responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive mining plans and production schedules.
• Supervise and manage a team of mining engineers, surveyors, and technical staff.
• Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and company policies.
• Optimize mine design, ventilation, ground support, and mine planning processes.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor operational performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Evaluate and recommend new mining technologies and equipment to enhance productivity.
• Manage mining contracts, equipment procurement, and resource allocation.
• Prepare detailed mining reports, feasibility studies, and capital expenditure proposals.
• Collaborate with metallurgists, geologists, and other specialists to ensure efficient resource recovery.
• Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and technical excellence within the mining department.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead engineering role.
• Extensive experience with PGM mining operations, preferably in the Rustenburg area.
• Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Ventsim, Vulcan).
• Strong understanding of underground mining methods, ground control, and ventilation systems.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience managing large technical teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Professional registration (Pr Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) is required.
• Commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a demanding operational environment in North West .
