Placements24 is seeking an experienced Lead Mining Engineer to drive open-pit mining design, planning, and execution in Centurion, Gauteng. You will lead a skilled team, optimize drilling, blasting, loading and hauling, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a strong background in mine planning software and a track record of improving productivity and profitability. Expect to mentor staff and manage budgets while coordinating with cross-functional teams to achieve targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• Master's degree or professional certifications are advantageous.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in open-pit mining engineering.
• At least 3 years in a supervisory/leadership role.
• Proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan or MinePlan and production monitoring systems.
• Strong knowledge of open-pit mining methods, equipment, and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop long-term and short-term mine plans for open-pit operations.
• Oversee mine design including pit geometry, haul roads, and waste dumps.
• Manage drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling for safety and efficiency.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new areas.

About the Role

Our client, a major force in the mining sector, is actively seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Lead Mining Engineer to spearhead their open-pit operations in Centurion, Gauteng, ZA . This leadership position is critical to the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of all open-pit mining activities. The Lead Mining Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and profitability of the mine by overseeing mine design, production planning, and operational performance. This role demands a deep understanding of open-pit mining methodologies, advanced planning techniques, and a strong capability to lead and mentor a team of mining professionals. Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related field.
• A Master's degree or relevant professional certifications are highly advantageous.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in open-pit mining engineering, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Proven expertise in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, MinePlan) and production monitoring systems.
• Strong knowledge of open-pit mining methods, equipment, and operational best practices.

• Excellent understanding of financial principles and their application to mining economics.
• Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations pertinent to the mining industry in Gauteng .

• Willingness to work on-site in the Centurion area and travel to other locations as needed.
