Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Mining Engineer for a major PGM operation in Rustenburg, North West. You will oversee underground and open-pit mining, optimize safety, efficiency and profitability, and guide technical direction for the mine.

A strategic thinker will lead engineers, surveyors and staff and ensure best practices across planning and execution. We require a Bachelor's in Mining Engineering with 10+ years in mining, including 5+ in senior roles, registration as Pr Eng, and hands-on

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of mining operations experience with at least 5 years in a senior/lead role.
• Extensive PGM mining experience, ideally in the Rustenburg area.
• Proficient with mine planning software: Deswik, Ventsim, Vulcan.
• Professional registration (Pr Eng) with ECSA is required.
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage large technical teams.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive mining plans and production schedules.
• Supervise and manage a team of mining engineers, surveyors, and technical staff.
• Ensure adherence to HSE regulations and company policies.
• Optimize mine design, ventilation, ground support and planning processes.
• Conduct site inspections and audits to monitor performance and identify improvements.
• Evaluate and adopt new mining technologies and equipment for productivity.
• Manage mining contracts, procurement, and resource allocation.
• Prepare mining reports, feasibility studies and CAPEX proposals.
• Collaborate with geologists, metallurgists and other specialists for resource recovery.
• Foster safety and continuous improvement within the mining department.
