Job summary

Placements24 in Durban seeks an experienced Industrial Refrigeration Engineer to oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of large-scale ammonia and Freon systems in food processing and manufacturing settings.

You will ensure reliability, efficiency, and safety of critical refrigeration infrastructure, lead preventative maintenance, diagnose complex equipment, and mentor junior technicians in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years hands-on experience as an Industrial Refrigeration Engineer.
• Experience with ammonia (NH3) and HFC/HCFC refrigerants.
• Proficient in brazing, welding and pipefitting for refrigeration systems.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics and refrigeration cycles.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, and maintain industrial refrigeration units and pipework.
• Perform inspections and diagnostic tests to identify issues.
• Troubleshoot and repair compressors, condensers, evaporators, and control systems.
• Conduct preventative maintenance according to schedules.
• Manage refrigerant levels and ensure regulatory compliance and leak detection.
• Interpret drawings, P&IDs and manuals to guide repairs.
• Ensure work complies with safety standards, especially with hazardous refrigerants.
• Maintain logs of maintenance, repairs, and spare parts inventory.
• Provide technical guidance to junior technicians and site personnel.
• Respond to emergencies to minimize downtime.
