Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Principal Conservation Architect in Stellenbosch to lead a team in heritage conservation and adaptive reuse. You will oversee assessments, planning, design, and liaise with heritage authorities to ensure compliant, high-quality outcomes.

The ideal candidate brings a Master's in Architecture with Conservation, 10–12+ years of experience, and strong leadership and client liaison skills, aiming to preserve South Africa’s architectural legacy within the Western Cape.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Architecture with a specialization in Conservation/Heritage Studies.
• 10–12+ years of relevant architectural conservation experience and a strong heritage project portfolio.
• Deep knowledge of South African heritage legislation, policies, and best practices.
• Proficiency in architectural design and documentation software.

Responsibilities

• Lead heritage conservation and adaptive reuse projects from assessment through design to delivery.
• Develop conservation management plans and heritage impact assessments.
• Prepare detailed technical specifications for repair, restoration, and refurbishment works.
• Oversee site supervision and contract administration for conservation projects.
• Engage with heritage authorities (SAHRA, Heritage Western Cape) and stakeholders.
