Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Architectural Conservationist in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, to lead preservation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. You will conduct assessments, develop conservation plans, and prepare technical drawings and reports for heritage projects.

The role requires a postgraduate degree in Architectural Conservation or related field and at least 5 years of SA-based experience, with strong knowledge of materials, legislation, and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree in Architectural Conservation, Heritage Management, or related field.
• At least 5 years' experience in architectural conservation, preferably in South Africa.
• In-depth knowledge of historical building materials and conservation philosophies.
• Familiarity with Heritage Western Cape and SAHRA legislation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and architectural documentation.
• Excellent research and report-writing skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed condition assessments and historical research on heritage buildings.
• Develop conservation management plans, restoration strategies, and proposals for heritage projects.
• Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and reports for heritage conservation and adaptive reuse projects.
• Liaise with heritage authorities and clients to navigate approvals.
• Oversee construction on site to ensure conservation adherence and quality.
• Advise on suitable materials and technologies for heritage conservation.
• Document and interpret South Africa's built heritage.
• Stay updated with international best practices in architectural conservation.
