Placements24 is seeking a Lead Geologist to spearhead offshore exploration initiatives in Cape Town, Western Cape. You will guide geological teams, oversee seismic interpretation and subsurface modeling, and drive hydrocarbon discovery while ensuring HSE compliance.

The role requires a PhD or MSc in geoscience, 10+ years of experience with offshore exposure, and strong leadership. You will collaborate with reservoir engineers and geophysicists and report to JV partners.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, or a related geoscience discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geological exploration, with at least 5 years offshore.
• Extensive experience with seismic interpretation software (Petrel, Kingdom Suite) and 3D visualization techniques.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• Strong understanding of plate tectonics, basin analysis, and sequence stratigraphy.

About the Role Our client, a leader in the global energy landscape, is looking for an experienced and visionary Lead Geologist to spearhead their offshore exploration initiatives in Cape Town, Western Cape . This pivotal role involves guiding geological teams in identifying and evaluating prospective hydrocarbon reserves through advanced seismic interpretation and subsurface modeling. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of geological processes, sedimentary basins, and the intricacies of offshore exploration. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of geologists and geophysicists in all aspects of offshore exploration.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, or a related geoscience discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geological exploration, with at least 5 years focused on offshore environments.
• Extensive experience with seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite) and 3D visualization techniques.
• Demonstrated success in identifying and maturing exploration leads and prospects.
• Strong understanding of plate tectonics, basin analysis, and sequence stratigraphy.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities.
• Experience with well data analysis and integration.
• Familiarity with geological modeling and uncertainty analysis.
• Must have legal authorization to work in South Africa.
