About the Role

Our client, a fast-growing e-commerce technology provider headquartered in Cape Town , is looking for an experienced and visionary Lead Front-End Developer specializing in React. This role is designed for an individual who is passionate about building scalable, high-performance web applications and leading a talented team of developers. You will be responsible for architecting and implementing complex front-end solutions, driving technical decisions, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional user experiences across all digital platforms. As a lead, you will mentor junior developers, promote best practices in code quality and development processes, and work closely with backend teams and product stakeholders to bring innovative features to life. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa, contributing to a global product.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of responsive and user-friendly web interfaces using React.
• Architect scalable and maintainable front-end solutions, making key technology and architectural decisions.
• Collaborate with product managers, UI/UX designers, and backend engineers to define and implement new features.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code adhering to industry best practices and coding standards.
• Mentor and guide junior front-end developers, providing technical leadership and fostering their professional growth.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, performance, and security.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed, scalability, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Stay updated with emerging front-end technologies and methodologies, advocating for their adoption where appropriate.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex front-end issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in front-end development, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role.
• Expertise in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.
• Deep understanding and proven experience with React.js and its core principles.
• Experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, Zustand).
• Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools (e.g., Webpack, Babel, npm/yarn).
• Experience with RESTful APIs and asynchronous request handling.
• Proficiency in version control systems, particularly Git.
• Strong understanding of web performance optimization techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Previous experience in e-commerce or SaaS platforms is a significant advantage.
