Job summary

West Coast Personnel is seeking a Lead Electrician for industrial solar projects in Gauteng. You will oversee end-to-end installation, commissioning and on-site supervision, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time delivery.

Role requires hands-on experience with solar systems, inverters, monitoring setup, and adherence to project designs, standards and customer expectations.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric (NQF 4).
• National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (NQF 6).
• AREP / SAPVIA PV Green Card Certification.
• Wireman’s License.
• Experience with solar installation (3 years max) including roof and ground mount systems.
• Experience with micro and string inverters and monitoring setup.
• ERP systems and MES exposure.
• Advanced Excel and MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and execute project plans with the Project Supervisor.
• Ensure installations comply with approved designs and specs.
• Assemble solar array racking, seal roof penetrations, install PV components.
• Set up and configure solar monitoring systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions.
• Update inverter firmware and perform basic testing.
• Document installations, outcomes and maintenance activities.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Installation teams for seamless execution.
• Ensure compliance with SANS standards and safety.
• Maintain QA/QC, manage costs and resources to meet budgets.
• Report risks/non-compliance to Project Supervisor.
• Communicate professionally with customers; ensure positive experience.

Job description

My client is looking for a Lead Electrician (Industrial Solar Projects) at their Elandsfontein, Gauteng facility.

This role is responsible for the end-to-end installation and commissioning of photovoltaic (solar) systems, ensuring all projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in line with approved designs, industry standards, and customer expectations. The Lead Electrician will supervise assistants on-site and work closely with project supervision and engineering teams across residential, commercial, and large-scale industrial installations.

Minimum Requirements:

• Proof of Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (NQF Level 4)
• Up to 3 years' hands-on solar installation experience (roof and ground mount systems)
• Experience with micro and string inverters, including system monitoring setup
• Computer literacy (MS Office Suite - Advanced Excel)
• Wireman's License
• National Diploma in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (NQF Level 6)
• AREP / SAPVIA PV Green Card Certification
• Exposure to ERP systems and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
• Experience in inverter testing (UPS, Rectifier) and PCB replacement
• Experience working on large-scale industrial or IPP-scoped solar projects
• Wireman's License

Responsibilities:

• Perform inverter firmware updates and basic system testing
• Document installations, outcomes, and maintenance activities accurately
• Coordinate with Engineering and Installation teams to ensure seamless project execution
• Ensure all installations comply with SANS standards, industry codes, and original design specifications
• Maintain high levels of quality assurance and quality control with a strong safety focus
• Ensure compliance with internal procedures to prevent fruitless, wasteful, and irregular expenditure
• Maintain accurate documentation and records
• Identify and report risks or non-compliance to the Project Supervisor
• Communicate with customers professionally at all times
