Job summary

West Coast Personnel seeks a Lead Electrician to manage end-to-end installation and commissioning of photovoltaic systems across residential, commercial, and industrial sites in Gauteng. You will supervise on-site crews, interpret project plans, and ensure work meets designs, budgets, and safety standards.

You will configure monitoring systems, perform inverter updates, and document all activities while coordinating with engineering teams to deliver on time with quality.

Qualifications

Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (NQF 4)
QCTO Red Seal Electrician Certification
Up to 3 years' hands-on solar installation experience (roof & ground mount)
Experience with micro and string inverters and system monitoring setup
Computer literacy (MS Office Suite - Advanced Excel)
Wireman's License
National Diploma in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (NQF 6)
AREP / SAPVIA PV Green Card Certification
Exposure to ERP systems and MES
Experience in inverter testing (UPS, Rectifier) and PCB replacement
Experience on large-scale industrial or IPP-scoped solar projects

Responsibilities

Interpret and execute project plans and drawings with Project Supervisor
Ensure installations follow approved designs and specs
Assemble solar array racking, seal roof penetrations, install PV components
Set up and configure solar monitoring systems
Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions
Perform inverter firmware updates and basic system testing
Document installations, outcomes, and maintenance activities
Coordinate with Engineering and Installation teams for seamless execution
Ensure compliance with SANS standards and design specs
Maintain quality control with strong safety focus
Maintain documentation and records
Identify and report risks or non-compliance to Project Supervisor
Communicate with customers professionally
Ensure a positive customer experience during installation
Maintain high client and internal satisfaction
Ensure projects meet budgets and timeframes
Monitor costs and material usage to minimize waste
Work with crew to meet deadlines and standards

Job description

This role is responsible for the end-to-end installation and commissioning of photovoltaic (solar) systems, ensuring all projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in line with approved designs, industry standards, and customer expectations. The Lead Electrician will supervise assistants on-site and work closely with project supervision and engineering teams across residential, commercial, and large-scale industrial installations.

Minimum Requirements:

Proof of Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (NQF Level 4)
QCTO Red Seal Electrician Certification
Up to 3 years' hands-on solar installation experience (roof and ground mount systems)
