Treetop Talent is seeking a Lead Electrician – SOLAR for a client in Johannesburg to lead installation and commissioning of photovoltaic systems from start to finish.

The role covers residential, light commercial, and large industrial/grid-tied projects, requiring strong safety, planning, and problem-solving skills. You will collaborate with project and engineering teams and ensure quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Electrical qualifications and wiring knowledge are essential.
• Experience with solar installations and safety compliance is required.
• Ability to read drawings and project plans is important.

Responsibilities

• Liaises with the Project supervisor to review project plans and drawings.
• Ensures that the project is built according to design.
• Set up solar monitoring system.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions and operational issues.
• Assemble solar array racking, seal roof penetrations, install equipment.
• Install residential, light commercial grid-tied, and large scale projects.
• Report to Installation Supervisor and Engineering, documenting outcomes.
• Maintain compliance with specifications and documentation.

Introduction

We are recruiting for a Lead Electrician – SOLAR for our client based in Jhb.

Job Purpose

Installation of solar installations and commissioning the photovoltaic system from beginning to end.

Duties & Responsibilities

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Liaises with the Project supervisor: Industrial to review project plans and drawings.
• Ensures that the project is built according to design.
• Set up solar monitoring system.
• Diagnose and trouble shoot system malfunctions and operational issues.
• Assemble the solar array racking, properly seal all roof penetrations, and install all relevant equipment.
• Installations will include residential, light commercial grid-tied photovoltaic systems, as well as large scale industrial and IPP scoped project installations.
• Report to, coordinate and collaborate with the Installation Supervisor and Engineering department to install all photovoltaic system components.
• Installations and outcomes documented / recorded.
• Compliance with applicable specifications and requirements.
• Operations and Maintenance maintained.
• Outbound logistical process efficiency (prompt repairs).
• Inbound logistical process efficiency (prompt returns).
• Manuals and instructions of process requirements complied with.
• Customer satisfaction / positive feedback received on services rendered.

COMPLIANCE (20%)

• Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures to prevent fruitless, wasteful and irregular expenditure.
• Maintain high levels of quality assurance and quality control, with emphasis on safety.
• Ensure that all installations meet industry standards and codes. SANS and the original design and specifications.
• Compliance with applicable regulations and procedures.
• Risks reported to Project Supervisor
• Availability of documentation and records.

• Computer Literacy (MS Office Suite – Advanced Excel).

• Sound exposure in solar inverter testing (UPS and Rectifier) and PCB replacement.
• Knowledge on reading lithium battery BMS data via USB – RS232 / RS 485 comms cable and upload to PC (screen clips and saving data).
• Ability to analyse and mark Excel data for BMS alarms and protection events.
• Conducting Inverter firmware updates.

EXPERIENCE

MINIMUM

Up to 3 years’ Solar Installation experience (Both roof and ground mount systems)

Experience in micro and string invertors and setting up monitoring systems. -
