Job summary

Shift Pursuit in Cape Town seeks an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer/Technologist to lead design and delivery of high‑reliability electrical systems for large-scale commercial, industrial and data centre projects. You will provide technical leadership, oversee complex designs, mentor teams and build strong client relationships while ensuring project quality.

The role requires a BSc Eng or BTech in Electrical Engineering, ECSA Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng registration, 10+ years of consulting

Qualifications

• BSc Eng or BTech in Electrical Engineering and professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng).
• Minimum 10 years of consulting engineering experience in building services and industrial sectors.
• Experience designing MV/LV power systems and leading multidisciplinary projects.
• Data centre experience and familiarity with JBCC, FIDIC and NEC contracts.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of HV/MV and LV electrical systems for commercial, industrial and data centre projects.
• Prepare electrical designs, calculations, specifications, reports and tender documentation.
• Provide technical leadership and quality assurance through reviews and project oversight.
• Manage project delivery from concept through construction and close-out.

Introduction

Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer / Technologist to join its Property and Building Services division. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong professional to lead the design and delivery of high-reliability electrical systems for large-scale commercial, industrial and data centre projects.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, oversee complex electrical designs, mentor engineering teams, and build strong client relationships while ensuring projects are delivered to the highest quality standards.

Key Performance Areas

• Lead the design and delivery of HV/MV and LV electrical systems for commercial, industrial and data centre projects.
• Prepare electrical designs, calculations, specifications, reports and tender documentation.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and arc flash analysis.
• Provide technical leadership and quality assurance through design reviews and project oversight.
• Manage project delivery from concept through construction and close-out.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and ensure successful project execution.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships while supporting business growth.
• Manage project budgets, professional fees, forecasting, WIP and invoicing.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, project requirements and engineering best practices.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• BSc Eng or BTech in Electrical Engineering.
• Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng).
• Valid South African driver’s licence and own transport.

Experience

• Minimum of 10 years’ consulting engineering experience within the building services and industrial sectors.
• Proven experience designing MV/LV electrical power systems.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Data centre project experience will be highly advantageous.
• Experience with ETAP or similar power system analysis software.
• Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks and Microsoft Office.
• Working knowledge of IEC, SANS and BS standards, with knowledge of JBCC, FIDIC and NEC contracts.

Key Skills

• Strong knowledge of MV/LV power distribution, standby generation, UPS systems and resilient power design.
• Excellent communication and technical report writing skills.
• Strong leadership, planning and project management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and lead project teams.
• Knowledge of data centre standards (TIA-942/Uptime) and ISO 19650 will be advantageous.
• Willingness to travel locally and internationally.
