Placements24 is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer in Gauteng to head the power systems division. The role focuses on high‑voltage design, protection schemes, and grid modernization, guiding a team of engineers in delivering complex projects.

You will oversee technical studies, ensure compliance with SA codes, and drive strategic planning for energy infrastructure development in the region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
• 10+ years in electrical engineering with power systems focus.
• Lead or supervisory experience expected.
• Pr.Eng registration with ECSA desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, engineering, and implementation of complex electrical power systems, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
• Develop and oversee protection schemes and control systems for power infrastructure.
• Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers, providing technical direction and fostering professional growth.
• Conduct detailed engineering studies, including load flow, short circuit, stability, and protection coordination analysis.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international electrical engineering standards, codes, and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and contractors, on project planning and execution.
• Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and resources for electrical engineering initiatives.
• Investigate and resolve technical issues related to power system performance, reliability, and equipment failures.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans for grid modernization and expansion.
• Oversee the procurement and commissioning of electrical equipment.
• Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and specifications prepared by the team.

• Proven experience in a lead or supervisory engineering role.
• Strong knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, PSCAD).
• Expertise in power system protection principles, relay settings, and coordination studies.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems and grid automation technologies.
• Excellent understanding of South African electrical codes and regulations.
• Demonstrated leadership, project management, and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Experience with renewable energy integration is a plus.
