Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to spearhead electrical design projects for major commercial developments in Cape Town. You will lead a team, deliver concept through construction, and ensure robust, code-compliant systems across power, lighting and LV designs.

The role demands strong leadership, detailed knowledge of building services, and effective collaboration with architects and other engineers. Based full-time in Cape Town offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in electrical design for commercial buildings.
• Experience leading design teams and managing multiple projects.
• Proficiency with CAD software and electrical design tools.
• Knowledge of NEC and SANS standards; EPC registration preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and engineering efforts for commercial building projects from concept to completion.
• Develop detailed electrical system designs including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, and low-voltage systems.
• Prepare design drawings, specifications, and calculations using industry-standard software.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers and other disciplines for integrated design.
• Conduct site visits for condition assessments and construction administration.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals during construction.
• Manage timelines, budgets and resources; mentor junior engineers and designers.
• Ensure compliance with building codes and standards in South Africa.
