About the Role

Our client, a prestigious construction group renowned for its involvement in landmark projects across South Africa, is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Construction Engineer for their operations in Sandton, Gauteng . This senior role demands exceptional technical expertise, strategic planning capabilities, and proven leadership in overseeing complex engineering aspects of large-scale construction projects. You will be responsible for technical decision-making, ensuring engineering integrity, and guiding the engineering team to achieve project objectives efficiently and safely. This is a Hybrid role, requiring significant on-site presence for technical oversight, problem-solving, and coordination, while also involving off-site responsibilities for planning, design review, and reporting. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving innovation and ensuring the highest standards of engineering excellence in all projects undertaken in the Sandton area and beyond. We are looking for an individual who can lead by example and inspire confidence in both the team and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and direction for engineering activities on construction sites.
• Oversee the planning, design review, and execution of engineering works.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards, codes, and regulations.
• Manage and mentor a team of construction engineers and technical staff.
• Identify and resolve complex technical challenges and construction issues.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and subcontractors.
• Develop and implement robust safety protocols for all engineering-related activities.
• Monitor and control engineering budgets and resource allocation.
• Conduct technical audits and ensure quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.

Requirements

• A professional degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng).
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction engineering, with a significant portion in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience in managing the engineering aspects of major commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
• Expert knowledge of structural engineering principles, construction methods, and materials.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in engineering design and project management software.
• Experience with projects in Sandton and the wider Gauteng province is essential.
• Ability to effectively manage tasks in a Hybrid work setting.
