Placements24 is seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to head the design of complex structures in George, Western Cape. The role focuses on delivering safe, efficient and sustainable structural systems for commercial and residential projects.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with architects and contractors, and ensure adherence to SA regulations and international standards. A strong leadership background and expert software proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
• Pr.Eng registration with ECSA is mandatory
• Minimum 7 years of progressive structural engineering experience
• Experience leading engineering teams on complex projects
• Proficiency with structural analysis software and CAD tools

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural engineering design process across diverse projects
• Perform advanced structural analyses using SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro
• Prepare drawings, specifications and reports for approval and construction

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural engineering design process for various construction projects, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
• Perform complex structural analysis and calculations using advanced software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro).
• Develop detailed structural drawings, specifications, and reports for approval and construction.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of structural engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate closely with architects, project managers, contractors, and other consultants to achieve project objectives.
• Conduct site inspections and provide engineering support during the construction phase to ensure design integrity and quality.
• Review shop drawings and construction submittals from contractors for compliance with design intent.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in structural engineering design and project management.
• Proven experience in leading engineering teams and managing complex structural projects.
• Expertise in structural analysis software and CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit Structure).
• Thorough understanding of South African building regulations, SANS codes, and relevant international standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with clients and project stakeholders.
• Experience with a variety of building types, including commercial, residential, and industrial structures.
