Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Senior Site Engineer for Johannesburg to oversee the technical and engineering facets of major commercial construction projects. The role combines on-site supervision with remote administrative tasks in a hybrid work model, supporting delivery on time and within budget.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, review engineering drawings, ensure safety standards, and liaise with clients and regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• 8+ years of progressive site engineering and construction project management experience.
• Proficiency in CAD tools and construction management software.
• ECSA registration is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage all engineering aspects on construction sites.
• Coordinate with architects, project managers, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
• Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality and safety.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of construction methodologies, structural integrity, and project management principles. You will play a crucial part in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage all engineering aspects on construction sites, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, and building codes.
• Coordinate with architects, project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
• Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance.
• Review and approve engineering drawings, method statements, and shop drawings.
• Manage and resolve technical challenges and engineering issues that arise during the construction phase.
• Prepare and submit regular progress reports, including technical findings and recommendations.
• Ensure that all construction activities are performed safely and in accordance with health and safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily logs, material records, and as-built drawings.
• Liaise with clients and regulatory bodies as required.
• Assist in the tendering process and procurement of materials and equipment.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in site engineering and construction project management.
• Proven experience in managing large-scale commercial construction projects.
• Proficiency in construction management software and CAD tools.
• Strong knowledge of South African building codes, regulations, and engineering standards.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to manage teams and subcontractors efficiently.
• Valid professional engineer registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) is highly desirable.
