Job summary

Labournet in Cape Town seeks a Labour Law Litigator to manage and advance client matters through ADR processes, conciliation, and arbitration. You will provide labour law advice, draft communications, and prepare witnesses and evidence.

A customer-first mindset and strong communication are essential for success in a fast-paced, hybrid work environment. Applicants should hold an LLB or related degree, with admission as an attorney or CCMA/BC dispute resolution experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Attend to all client matters and ADR processes from investigation to arbitration
• Provide Labour Law advice and preside over Labour Law matters for clients
• Discuss complex cases with clients and analyse risk
• Assist with case law research and preparation for disputes
• Represent clients at conciliation, arbitration, and pre-arbitration proceedings
• Maintain case status and contribute to client growth and retention

Job Description

We currently have an exciting position available for Labour LawLitigator, to be working within our Cape Town branch.

You are responsible for

Inclusive of, but not limited to:

Attending to all client matters and all phases of Labour Law Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) matters/cases from the investigation, discovery, assessment phase through the pre-arbitration, conciliation, settlement, mediation, and arbitration processes.

Client Management:

• Billing target achieved
• Providing Labour Law advice to Clients, including consultation and presiding over all types of Labour Law matters.
• Discussing complex cases / disputes with Clients
• Analysing risk and probable dispute outcomes
• Assist with research on most recent case law
• Assist Clients with the preparation for different disputes
• The application of and/or interpreting laws, rules and regulations relating to dispute resolution
• Drafting correspondence to Clients, the CCMA/Council, Union Officials and other employee representatives.
• Gathering and compiling evidence, analysing evidence and the preparation of witness testimonies
• Representing/Managing Clients at conciliation, con/arb, and arbitration level as well as pre-arbitration proceedings
• Updating of case status on client management system
• Various other responsibilities, including, but not limited to those specified herein and other requests and instructions from time to time
• Contribute to growth and client management of the business

Quality:

• Matter files are in line with the required standard.
• Management of dispute matters to required standard

Client Retention:

• Maintain a high success ratio in disputes assigned to you.

Qualifications

You'll need a customer-first mindset and the following skills to succeed in this role:

• LLB or B-Degree in IR/Law/HR/Industrial psychology or related field
• Admission as an Attorney or experience in CCMA/BC Dispute Resolution advantageous.
• Valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle is essential
